ExxonMobil recently partnered with Palantir Technologies, a leading provider of modern enterprise operating systems, to add powerful new features to its Serv℠ cylinder condition monitoring service. This upcoming upgrade combines ExxonMobil's extensive maritime knowledge, engine lubrication technology, and Palantir's world-class digital platform and analytics capabilities, providing detailed and in-depth analysis of ship operations and helping to prevent premature wear of engine components.
These updates stem from ExxonMobil's proprietary technology and vast onboard testing database, containing over 750,000 data packets. Palantir Technologies' Foundry platform fully integrates and deeply analyzes these records, allowing ship operators to benchmark the performance of other similar engine models under various operating conditions, while also conducting trend analysis across the entire fleet and comparable vessels to enhance overall company efficiency.
“Our collaboration with Palantir Technologies has significantly improved the capabilities, accuracy, and speed of our Serv℠ cylinder condition monitoring solution. Now we can fully leverage the big data gathered from our experience to conduct in-depth analysis anytime, anywhere,” said Ioannis Chatzakis, Global Marine Technology Program Manager at ExxonMobil. “Ship operators can use this data to analyze it themselves on the platform and connect to it to help them manage all their vessels in operation, improving overall efficiency.”
As the marine industry transitions to low-carbon fuels, this service will play an irreplaceable role. Given the many uncertainties surrounding operations, real-time monitoring of engine status provides peace of mind and offers valuable insights into the performance of new fuels and engine designs.
With the Palantir Foundry, ExxonMobil can leverage more historical data for analysis and recommendations, and fleet managers can also gain insights into their vessels' performance by comparing them with any other vessel in the ExxonMobil database in a completely anonymous manner.
“Our Foundry platform bridges the gap between analytics and operations, providing robust support for decision-making. Organizations around the world use our tools to help them accomplish their most important tasks,” said Matthew Babin, Head of Energy and Natural Resources at Palantir Technologies. “We built Foundry to partner with large organizations like ExxonMobil to serve vital industries like global shipping.”
